To find friends on Hotmail, a user must go to the Windows Live Member Directory search page. The directory provides import options from other services, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and also allows the user to enter a name or email address into a search bar.

To access the Member Directory, the user must first click on Contacts. On the Contacts page, click the link beneath the Your Friends category, called Add People.
